Columbia South Carolina Snake Situation: Hello, This year I have had an increase in snakes in my yard. I live in Columbia SC Richland County and have 2 ½ acres. Surrounding my 2 and 1/2 acres is idle acres (CPR land), which I know is a place that snakes will like to live. But, up until this year, I had only seen a couple snakes in the eight years I have lived here. This year I have seen over a dozen snakes. I have occasionally had mice in my house, but that number has decreased the longer I have lived here. This past year I have only had two mice in the house. Can you help me understand why I have seen an increase in the snakes this year? And do you have suggestions as to how to keep them away from my house. I would like to keep my yard free of them, but I realize that isn't being realistic. But just yesterday I had a snake and it went down into the dirt next to my foundation. I do not want them in my house. I am a bit panicked to known a snake went down into the dirt by my foundation so any suggestions you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!! I have heard that spreading lime around the house may prevent snakes from coming near the foundation. Have you had any experience using lime? Or is there another product you recommend to put around the foundation? I have two cats that do go outside so my preference would be to use a product not harmful to them. However, I would consider rehoming them if I need to use a product that could harm them. Thank you so much for any suggestions you can give me!!!
