San Antonio Texas Snake Situation: How to get rid of rattlesnakes - If you live in an area where rattlesnakes are indigenous, such as San Antonio TX, you need to accept the fact that you will never be free of them. Living in regions with rattlers means a change in lifestyle and habit. No more walking through the woods and carelessly stepping over a log. You need to be aware at all times, and you need to understand the behavior patterns of the snakes. And if you hear a snake rattle-get away from it! Despite what the movies would have you believe, backing away from a rattle snake that is rattling is an acceptable safety precaution. The snake will not randomly strike at you unless you continue to make it feel threatened. The best you can hope for when living in rattlesnake territory is to keep the animals off your property as much as possible. This means no thick vegetation and not debris. You will find that most homeowners in rattler zones have modified how they keep wood piles and fences. Grass needs to be short. Large birds of prey will eat snakes, and even a rattlesnake does not want to cross a long expanse of short grass. Gardens, if you insist on having them, need to be fenced in with a fence that is flush to the ground or extends into the soil a few inches.
Hey David, thanks for writing and the comment on the snake site. I have a lot of work to do on it still, but with only another couple of months to actually do much work, I opted to get it up fast. No problem on the listing, I assumed as much and just thought I'd write and see anyway. Congrats on building such a network, the snake stuff is pretty impressive. I've actually seen your blog many times in the last year or two just out looking for snake photos and whatnot. Also thanks for the advice on the pricing. I've got to find some way to draw some limits on service areas. San Antonio metro area is very spread out and it takes over 2 hours to drive from the extreme North side to the Southern extent without any traffic ... that's half my day for one call. Right now I'm just in "get some calls" mode, and plan on raising prices to throttle once some of my marketing efforts take off. I think a static price is the way to go, and I like the flat price for snake removal suggestion. Thanks again, and I'll be checking out those traps. By the way, I see that photo of the tonged gartersnake EVERYWHERE, haha. Bryan
