Montgomery Alabama Snake Situation: Hi. I'm going to be in the Montgomery AL area March 29 for 4 days. It's a spring break trip for my family but my 16 year old son is into herpetology and wants to spend some time looking for reptiles to photograph. He has been doing this for several years. He is a counselor at the cincinnati nature Center in Ohio where we live. I can't tell you how many places I've gone with him to look for and photograph snakes, etc. But Alabama wildlife scares me a bit. We were planning on hiking around some state parks but I thought maybe I could find a professional in the area that would go with us if I paid for their time. I actually did just that last summer in NC. I paid a state park ranger to be our guide on his day off. It worked out great because he knew the area and what to look for. Would you be interested or know anyone that might be? We can't go too far from Montgomery because we don't have the time. Can you suggest places to go? Thanks so much.

My response: I live in Orlando, and I don't know Montgomery very well. I personally do not believe there's anything to worry about regarding AL wildlife or snakes. I think state parks, or any undeveloped land, would be a good place to go herping. Good luck!

He is looking on google maps at dirt roads, etc. I'm worried that it's all private property. What is the atmosphere in Florida if someone finds you on your property. I wouldn't intentionally go there, but since I don't know the area and it's easy to keep heading in one direction or another, it's possible that could happen. Thanks for your time.
