Melbourne Florida Snake Situation: David, My name is Thomas and I live in Melbourne FL. I wasn't sure if this is considered the "Orlando area" so if it is not I would appreciate any information on who to call to remove a snake. I'll just give you a run down on the current situation and if you need more information I will happily provide it for you. First, I live in Sundance apartments, so if this is something I should have them take care of I will surely do so. Currently the office is closed so it will have to wait til the morning. There is a drain in the middle of a small, grassy area near my apartment that I walk by every day. Today I heard a noise when I walked by and decide to take a peak. I was honestly hoping it was an animal of some sort, just for the slight excitement. In the drain was a very large Burmese python. I would estimate it to around 7 feet and at least as thick as the average persons calf. I currently own a few snakes and other reptiles, so fear is not the issue here. If I had somewhere to put it until someone could be reached I would. I know Florida has an issue with people getting lazy and releasing invasive species into the wild, which is the main reason I am contacting you. I don't want the python to get injured in any way so if there is anything you can do, or anything I can do please let's know. Being in the drain/sewer system gives the python a lot of options on where it can roam so I know by the time anyone got here it may be gone. I just wanted to let someone know about this situation to prevent any human interaction that may lead to injury. I know snakes don't generally attack people unless its absolutely necessary, and since it was probably someone's pet it may be quite docile, but better safe than sorry. Thank you ahead of time for your help and incite on this situation.
