Louisville Kentucky Snake Situation: Hello, I am wondering if you could help us determine the type of snake that shed his skin in the attached photos. It is not in one continuous piece, unfortunately, but maybe with the pictures, you can give us some sort of idea. We live in the Louisville KY area, more north Kentucky. This was found at the base of our siding and patio in our back yard. We do have a fair amount of woods behind us. Some family members close by to us say they have killed some copperhead's, so we are fearful of those. We have also seen black snakes in our yard as well, which I am told those are "good"snakes. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
David, Please take a look at the attached pictures. They are taken on a six foot bench and I don't have the head or tail so I assume it's at least that long. Sorry for the lousy quality but hopefully it's good enough for you too see what you need to. Thank you for your website, it was very informational and calmed me down a bit. I live in the country (Kentucky for location) and found this skin in one of my sheds where mice have been prevalent in the past. It was caught on the bottom corner of the fridge on the right side of the picture along the base of the concrete footing. I have a couple of young kids around the house is my biggest concern and one dog lives in that shed. If it's just a non venomous fella eating mice I'm fine with that but if it's got some venom and a bad attitude then I'll probably have to figure something out. I've tried to tell my kids if they see a big snake to just turn around and walk away but curious little kids are like herded cats, they don't remember things to well when they see something interesting. Anyway, thank you for your time and expertise, Brad
