Lakeland Florida Snake Situation: David: I stumbled across your website in looking for images of a snake. I've found it full of interesting and accurate information. My wife and I are both tour guides at Shark Valley, Everglades National Park and we pride ourselves on the accuracy of the information we present to our visitors. People are eager to hear information about snakes and it's good to have your website to either get new information or confirm that what we tell them is correct. My wife, Katy has worked there for two years and I've been there for a year. I've caught two Burmese Pythons in the park during that time and one outside the park. We've been trained by the park to identify the invasive reptiles and how to capture them. During the last training session we attended, we were shown a map of potential future Burmese Python habitat. It's possible they may be able to spread as far North as Washington D.C. We had an unusual winter event in December of 2010 where the temperature stayed close to freezing for two weeks. We thought that might take care of the python problem but it didn't. Some dead pythons were found but after the weather warmed up, healthy adults as well as newly hatched juveniles were found. That cold snap just eliminated the susceptible ones and made them stronger! I'm curious if you are seeing them in your area? Are you familiar with ivegot1.org? Thanks for all the great info on your website! Eric
