Hackensack New Jersey Snake Situation: David, I live in Northern New Jersey and this snake was on my front porch. I have young daughters and I am concerned for their safety. No one seems to be able to identify this snake. Do you know what it may be? There are 3 pictures of it and can be viewed as a slideshow which will show you a much larger picture of the snake. Not sure what to do as it could be under our front porch. Also had a 5 foot black racer on my back deck a week ago, but this one doesn't look good. Thank you. Sincerely, Chris
Corn Snake, harmless. Good to have around.
Thanks for responding David! Even a pest/wildlife removal guy said it didn't look live a wild New Jersey snake that he had seen. He actually thought that it may be or have been a domestic snake that had gotten loose or was let go in the wild, He mentioned that it looked like a Burmese Python?? You sound confident(not that I am doubting you) that it is a corn snake. So it won't strike unless really provoked/cornered? Again, I have 9 year old daughters who play in our front yard which is only several feet from the porch. Worried it is holing up under porch.
Not a python. A variant of Corn snake, a type of rat snake, or maybe an Eastern Milk Snake, hard to see in your photo. Either way, as harmless as an earthworm.
